2008 Camp Counselor Recognition Program
Thanks to the continued
financial support of Kansas Farm Bureau, the Camp Counselor
Recognition Program has been extended through 2008. The emphasis
will be placed on local recognition of all camp counselors at either
the local 4-H Achievement Program and/or the Annual Farm Bureau
Meeting. This will provide a unique opportunity for Extension Staff
and the 4-H program to build and strengthen the partnership with the
local Farm Bureau organization. Please note that this is no longer
the “Distinguished Camp Counselor Program” — all counselors will
receive recognition.
If counselor behavior at your camp is a cause for reconsidering
recognition of a counselor or group of counselors, please do not
include them. Use your judgment on what is appropriate.
Procedures for 2008:
1. Recognition of Counselors at 4-H Camp
Camping Groups can and should recognize their camp counselors at
some time during 4-H camp, using whatever ideas, techniques, and
strategies they wish. Specially designed certificates will be made
available for counties and districts to present to the counselors at
the respective functions held later this fall.
2. Submit Information to State 4-H Office by July 15th
The camp chair or camp counselor trainer agent should submit the
Camp Counselor Information Form to the State 4-H Office by July
15th. The information will be compiled and submitted to Kansas Farm
Bureau for distribution to their respective county coordinators
and/or presidents.
3. Certificates & Local Farm Bureau Organization Contacts
The Recognition will be included in the packets you will receive
the second weekend of State Fair. A sample letter
will be included for your use — please feel free to edit so as to
fit your particular needs and style.
Working in partnership with the local Farm Bureau Organization &
County Coordinators, extension staff make arrangements and design
the plan for the recognition of camp counselors at the local 4-H
Achievement Program and/or the Annual Farm Bureau Meeting.
Involvement of the Farm Bureau representative and recognition of
Farm Bureau for their statewide support of camp counselor leadership
development is very important.
IMPORTANT: Although the funding for this recognition program is
provided by Kansas Farm Bureau, it is vitally important to involve
the local Farm Bureau Organization and the appropriate
representative. Please note that the County Farm Bureau
Coordinator/Contact is not the Farm Bureau Insurance Agent.
