Ambassadors Training - . Ambassadors are youths 14-18-years-old who have been selected from their county/district. Ambassadors receive training in a two-day conference at Rock Springs 4-H Center in marketing and promoting 4-H through workshops in communications and leadership development. County/District Ambassador Advisors and Extension staff also attend the training. The training is planned and organized by the Kansas 4-H Ambassador Action Team.
Campference
Tentative - June 14-17, 2011, Rock Springs 4-H Center
This event is focused on "betweeners"; 4-H members ages 12-14. Participants experience the feel of a "conference", while enjoying the "camp" activities at Rock Springs 4-H Center. Campference features workshops about opportunities in the 4-H program; activities to energize youth while learning leadership skills, and how to better interact with others.
Camping - Campers excitement like fireflies' lighting a summer's evening sparks childhood memories of fun-filled, stress-free, spontaneous days. Attending summer camp can be a time for experiencing nature and the outdoors, making new friends, and learning life skills. Summer camp is more than just a vacation. Camp is a learning adventure like no other place to learn self-confidence, cooperating with others and life beyond one's own world. The outcome of camping is for those life lessons to contribute in a positive and significant way that enhances the child's adjustment into their adult years.
Citizenship in Action - This event scheduled for February 14-15, 2010, is for Kansas 4-H members who are at least 13 years old, to learn how the state legislative process works, and how their voice and participation in decision-making can make a difference in 4-H and in their communities.
Citizenship Washington Focus - 15-18 year old members apply to attend this intensive 12 day summer citizenship experience in our nation's capitol. Along the route, delegates tour educational sites like the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Independence Hall in Philadelphia and Gettysburg Battlefield. Delegates and/or their Extension units are responsible for the cost of $1,300.
Dairy Judging Contest - This contest is held during the All Breeds Junior Dairy Show in Salina. Youth learn to evaluate and place classes of several dairy breeds. The event features a cooperative learning Beginners division for 7-8 year old youth to learn the judging process with a parent or leader's assistance. Senior division for 14-18 year old youth give oral reasons and compete for the opportunity to be on a stake team that qualifies for national competition.
Dairy Quiz Bowl - This event test the knowledge of youth in the areas of dairy breeds, selection, nutrition, animal physiology, management practices and dairy food products. Beginners (7-8 year old) participate in a cooperative learning informal exposure to the quiz bowl process and basic dairy information. Open division youth (9-18 year old) enter as individuals, meet youth from other counties and test their dairy knowledge by participating on multi-age teams. Senior division (14-18 year old) attempt to qualify for potential national competition.
Discovery Days
This college experience held on the K-State campus gives youth 13-19 the opportunity to learn in a variety of classes, tours and activities. The dates are June 1-4, 2010. Registration costs are approximately $160. The Emerald Circle Awards banquet is held during this time.
Dog Conference - Spend a fun-filled fall weekend at Rock Springs 4-H Center with your dog (optional) and dog project members from across the state. Learn dog training, grooming and health tips; share dog photos, play games at the carnival and participate in the costume contest. Test your general dog knowledge by participating in the quiz bowl or do a dog presentation.
Family & Consumer Sciences - The State Family and Consumer Sciences Judging Contest takes place every September at the Kansas State Fair.
Geology Field Tour - Participate in a family weekend of rock, mineral and fossil collecting and study a specific geologic area of Kansas. Two simultaneous trips are held each year in opposite parts of the state. Check your geology knowledge via a judging contest and fun quiz.

Horse Events
Horticulture Judging Contest - At Horticulture Judging Contests participants demonstrate their knowledge of horticulture and gardening. 4-Hers compete in three areas, an identification test, a written exam and a quality judging exercise. The scores from these three sections are combined. 4-Hers compete on both an individual level and as a team.
Local and regional competitions are held throughout the year. The Horticulture Judging Contest is held in August on the KSU campus. The winning team qualifies to compete on the national level at National Junior Horticultural Association contest in the fall.
Kansas City Global Summit - Registration is open to youth between 15-19 years old to learn about career interests and global issues. While some Extension units provide free registration to selected individuals, attendance is open to all youth and return attendees are now welcome. The dates in 2010 are March 17-20. Registration fees for youth are approximately $275 for youth and $365 for adults.
Kansas State Fair - The Kansas State Fair serves as the showcase for Kansas 4-H member project work by providing opportunity for county-qualified competitive exhibits in 4-H projects, livestock shows, dog shows, and judging contests. Exhibitors must be 9 and older before January 1, to participate. The Kansas State Fair begins the first Friday of September following Labor Day.
Kansas Volunteer Leader Forum - The State 4-H Volunteer Forum offers a wide array of workshops and interactive sharing sessions for individuals who serve in a variety of volunteer roles for their local and county/district 4-H programs. It is held annually at Rock Springs 4-H Center in conjunction with the Kansas 4-H Youth Leadership Forum (KYLF). The 2010 Forum will be November 19 - 21 at Rock Springs 4-H Center. The theme for the 2010 Forum is "Celebrating 10 Years of Leadership Learning. The Forum is a project of the Kansas Association of 4-H Volunteers.
Kansas Youth Leadership Forum - Held at Rock Springs 4-H Center, November 19-21, 2010, the Youth Leadership Forum enhances leadership skills for youth ages 14-18. The Forum includes speakers, workshops, service learning, consulting groups and election of area representatives to the State 4-H Youth Leadership Council. The cost is approximately $165.
Livestock Events
Meat Judging Contest - Youth learn to identify retail cuts of lamb, beef and pork. They will also place classes of wholesale/primal-subprimal or retail cuts of beef and pork. Members will learn to defend their placings by giving three sets of oral reasons. Two county/district teams of older youth (14-18 year old) will have an opportunity to qualify for national competition.
National 4-H Conference - Up to six delegates are selected by applications and interviews to attend this working conference at the National 4-H Center in Washington, D.C. each spring. Delegates work with the national 4-H program leaders on issues, visit government officials and participate in cultural opportunities. National Conference delegates serve on the State 4-H Youth Leadership Council, State 4-H Advisory Committee, and other State 4-H events. Delegates must be 15-18 years old and are responsible for partial costs of approximately $600-$900.
National 4-H Congress - This annual trip recognizes outstanding 4-H members from across Kansas who have excelled at achieving and applying leadership, citizenship and life skills. National 4-H Congress is a recognition, educational, cultural and community service experience held in late November each year in Atlanta, Georgia. Kansas' representatives consist of Project delegates selected from Kansas 4-H Award winners, and Centennial delegates representing their local 4-H programs. The trip costs approximately $1,100. A travel grant of $400 is provided by the Kansas 4-H Foundation for Project and Standard of Excellence delegates. Centennial delegates are responsible for the entire cost.

SpaceTech Experience - The Kansas 4-H SpaceTech experience is a 4-H program focusing on 4-H space technology and 4-H science issues. The experience is headed up by the Kansas 4-H SpaceTech Action Team that is a group of Kansas 4-H youths, aged 14-18, adult volunteer 4-H leaders, 4-H parents, Extension staff and other enthusiasts. The action team provides space technology project training to Kansas 4-H and also helps present space technology activities at camps, and other 4-H events upon request.
Venturers - A unique concept of bringing together youth (must be 14 by January 1) and adults who seek outdoor adventure challenges! The program consists of training in outdoor living skills, leadership and teamwork, communications, low-impact camping, backpacking, canoeing and white water rafting techniques prior to the 10 day summer adventure trip.
Wheat Show - The annual free wheat field day is a one-day family event designed to educate about the Kansas wheat industry and to provide youth opportunities to participate in and to be recognized in wheat related classes including wheat production, loaves of wheat bread, cookies, wheat photographs, and wheat center pieces. Participants take part in hands-on wheat activities, and participate in the judging of wheat exhibits in eight divisions that award cash prizes. The field day is open to 4-H and FFA members, family members, volunteer 4-H leaders, Extension staff and Vocational Ag staff .
