Decade of the 60's: New Beginning
1961 Membership age lowered from 10 to 8 years
1962 First state-sponsored Citizenship Short Course Trip to National 4-H Center (32 attended)
1963 Reading, Health, Safety, Grain marketing, Meat Utilization, Conservation, People-to-People made official projects in Kansas
1964 Career Exploration made a project
1964 Wearing of 4-H uniform discontinued statewide
1966 23 different projects established at State Fair
1966 New look to 4-H programs - TV, special interest and enrichment projects beginning*
1966 Glenn M. Busset named State 4-H Leader, July 1
1966 Project trends toward scientific fields, such as animal science, plant science and food science and veterinary
1967 Kansas 4-H movie, "Happiness is 4-H" was made*
1967 Emphasis was given Career Exploration by making it the theme of State 4-H Round-up
1968 First State 4-H Rabbit Clinic
1968 3,668 members enrolled in the breeding and horseman phases of the horse project. There were 464 volunteer adult leaders working with members enrolled in the horse project*
1969 Purchase of Camp WaShunGa from Lutheran church

*In the 1960s and 1970s, the horse project grew rapidly. Enrollment more than doubled in the first five years.

*Commercial television was first used on a systematic scale by 4-H as an educational tool in 1966.

*A colorful new 15-minute 4-H movie, "Happiness is 4-H", was produced jointly by the Kansas Cooperative Extension Service and the Kansas 4-H Foundation in 1967. The traditional approach of "it's good for you" was abandoned in favor of "4-H is fun, come join us."
