(1) Kansas 4-H, The History of Head, Heart, Hands and Health,1906-1993, by Betty Lou Denton and Merle L. Eyestone. This book, as well as an addendum, is available from The Kansas 4-H Foundation, 116 Umberger Hall, Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS 66506. Call (785) 532-5881.
 
(2) The 4-H Story by Franklin M. Reck in 1951 was the first official history published that portrayed the beginning of the 4-H movement in the United States from 1900 to 1950.
 
(3) 4-H: An American Idea, 1900-1980 was authored by Tom and Marilyn Wessel in 1981.

(1) National 4-H Hall of Fame (http://www.nae4ha.org/hof/index.htm) -- J. Harold Johnson, former State 4-H Leader and 4-H Agent in Kansas is among those listed. Merle Eyestone was selected for induction into the Class of 2003 National 4-H Hall of Fame. Mr. Eyestone is a former 4-H Agent in Shawnee County; others will remember him from his years as Director at Rock Springs or with the Kansas 4-H Foundation. Otis Hall, the first Kansas State Leader and author of the National 4-H pledge, was inducted into the National 4-H Hall of Fame in 2004. Glenn Bussett, the first State 4-H Leader to also be a former 4-H'er, was inducted into the National 4-H Hall of Fame in 2005.
