4-H Strategic Plan Theme Team Meeting Announced - The Kansas 4-H Youth Development Program is in a process of developing a new strategic plan for its future. It is available on the 4-H website at: http://www.oznet.ksu.edu/4hstrategicplan/stratplanHOME.htm

A premier group of youth, volunteers, faculty, agents, and staff have developed the framework of a strategic plan with 5 major themes. It is time to add the "flesh" to that framework in the way of specific action-oriented recommendations under each theme. Those recommendations will provide future guidance for the 4-H Youth Development program in Kansas.

I ask that you consider a theme and make a commitment to help us in identifying those guiding recommendations for that theme.

We have scheduled a "THEME TEAM" meeting on Thursday, December 4 from 9:30-3:30 at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 901 East Neal, Salina. At that meeting we will break up into 5 Theme Teams to add the specific, action-oriented recommendations to the strategic plan.

If you are willing to commit yourself to this day for the purpose of providing constructive development of those recommendations within a given theme, please contact the State 4-H office and indicate so by no later than Friday, November 21st.
Simply indicate which Theme you would like to work on. Youth and volunteers are encouraged to participate!  Buchholz

Kansas Junior Master Gardener Newsletter is now available at
http://www.oznet.ksu.edu/4h/JMG/Newsletters/current.htm   This month the newsletter includes information on food safety lessons from the JMG curriculum; how to plant a Native American tradition, The Three Sisters Garden; and gardening grant opportunities.

Horse Panorama information for 2004 can be found on the horse program page at:
http://www.oznet.ksu.edu/4h/horse/horsepanoramasubpg.htm
Remember that any senior (age 14 and older) must have passed all three sections (knowledge, leadership and skill) of Level I and Level II prior to the deadline for the panorama. Please do not wait until the last minute to accomplish this as our office is closed between Christmas and New Years. We have no control over the closing.

Gallon Jars for Crop Seed Exhibits - Tom Roberts, retired from Kansas Crop Improvement Association, has several wide-mouth gallon jars that he would give to any county or youth needing them for future exhibits! Call Tom at 785-537-1590, if interested.  Adams

County Competitions - Every year, during fair season, we have questions asking what shows can be used to qualify for state fair. This is determined by each county/district; however, NOW is the time to make the decision and publish the list so everyone will know well in advance of the next show season. Remember that you cannot list a show that is held after the state fair entry deadline for your county/district. These designations are in addition to animal nomination procedures. Projects to consider are: Dog Care and Training, Beef, Sheep, Swine, Dairy, Poultry, Rabbit, and Dairy Goats.  Adams

A big Thank You to the 490 plus Extension agents, Extension Specialists, 4-H members and 4-H volunteers who assisted with the 4-H Division at the 2003 Kansas State Fair. The fair wouldn't be a success without you!  Adams
