National Volunteer Recognition Week -  April 18-24 -  We all know the importance of recognition for our volunteers throughout the year, not just one time a year. But, there is one special week that is dedicated to recognizing volunteers --- and it takes place April 18-24. If you are searching for creative and new ideas to use in recognizing your volunteers, you might check out the resources on the following websites: www.avaintl.org and points of light.org/catalog McNally

Details about the Master 4-H Volunteer Program were electronically mailed in early March to all Extension Offices. The program is a project of the Kansas Association of 4-H Volunteers, which is providing scholarships to those who participate in the program. We hope that staff will be able to successfully recruit key volunteers for a specific job or position, who are willing to invest 20 hours for training and "give-back" 40 hours to your 4-H program. Kansas 4-H Venturers Video is available!!!!!  For only $10, the newly released 4-H Venturers Video can be purchased! The 7 minute video captures the essence of what the program is all about via footage from the Boundary Waters adventure, interviews with teens and adults and fantastic music. Thanks to Deb Pryor, Venturers Action Team Member and Volunteer, the professionally produced video is top-quality and can be a fantastic recruiting and educational tool for your teen programs. Please contact the State 4-H Office if you would want to purchase a video. McNally

Kansas 4-H Venturers - Rafting on the Green River in 2004!  In addition to the Philmont Backpacking Adventure (August 4-13) in New Mexico, the 4-H Venturers will also be white water rafting on the Green River in NW Colorado/NE Utah (June 18-25)!!!! Both trips have a maximum number of participants (25 for rafting and 24 for backpacking). At this time, the rafting trip is filled. But if you should have a teen (14 years of age by June 1, 2004) who is interested in the rafting trip, please contact Jo Ellen Arnold, Franklin Co. 4-H Agent  jearnold@oznet.ksu.edu to get on the waiting list. National 4-H Camping Institute --- A Phenomenal Happening!  Thanks to the incredible leadership given by the members of the State 4-H Camp Action Team, the National 4-H Camping Institute held February 7-11 at Rock Springs 4-H Center, was a phenomenal happening!  We were honored to host 142 folks from 26 states for this intensive, action-packed and fun-filled conference. And, we were honored to have many of you helping in a variety of ways throughout the institute --- registration, van drivers for tours, workshop hosts, silent auction helpers, and on the list goes. What a great team effort!

Thanks to the support provided by the Kansas 4-H Foundation, each county will receive a notebook of printed resource materials from the Institute along with the "Kansas 4-H Camp Songs" CD. You will find an array of fantastic workshop handouts and program ideas in this notebook that can be incorporated and utilized throughout the year, just not at the summer residential camp setting. Again, our heart-felt thanks to those who helped make this conference a very special chapter in the book of life for the Kansas 4-H Camping Program. McNally
