Heritage Arts---New Record 4H863

Visual Arts and Crafts---use MG51

4-H Ambassadors T-Shirts - Attention:  Staff working with 4-H Ambassador Programs, we are placing a second order of 4-H Ambassador T-shirts. These are the T-shirts that were given to participants at this year's State 4-H Ambassador Training. If your Ambassadors missed the training here is an opportunity to order some matching shirts for them. The shirts are 50/50 cotton/polyester and are $10 each. They are black with silver printing. To maintain the metallic silver print, they should not be dried in a dryer. You may see the shirts at this web page... http://www.oznet.ksu.edu/4h/Ambassador/shirts.JPG

Shirts are $10 each and should be ordered through Kathy kzimmerm@oznet.ksu.edu or call her at (785)532-5800 at the State 4-H Office. Sizes available are S, M, L, XL, and XXL. Please place your order with Kathy by May 5. So shirts can be picked up at Discovery Days. Checks should be made to the Kansas 4-H Foundation. Hinshaw

"Kansas 4-H Centennial Website now on-line" - I am pleased to announce that the Kansas 4-H Centennial now has a website home with the receipt of this May Tip Sheet. Thanks to Office Professional Cheryl Thomas for working on this for the past year or more. Note also that it is still a work in progress. We will be adding an option to encourage and allow agents, leaders, members and others to send in ideas that they will be celebrating in their clubs and counties across the state. This will serve as a cafeteria of ideas that can easily be shared at the local level.

Use the following link to access this website: http://www.oznet.ksu.edu/4h/4Hhistory.htm/KSCentennialPage2.htm
Keep checking it periodically for updates, and let your 4-H families know it is now available. Fisher

North Central Regional 4-H Volunteer Forum - Important!!! Please mark this website as a great place to gather information pertaining to the 2004 North Central Regional 4-H Volunteer Forum:  http://www.four-h.purdue.edu/ncrvf
The Forum takes place November 11 -14 in Indianapolis, Indiana. If you are seeking opportunities for your volunteers to receive outstanding training and exposure to new ideas that can strengthen your 4-H program, then you will want to consider recruiting some folks to attend the Regional Volunteer Forum.

This annual gathering of 550+ volunteers from 12 states and three Canadian provinces features many workshops, informal sharing sessions, keynote speakers and lots of fun! Hard copies of the registration booklet will be shipped to each Extension Office in early May --- but in the meantime, you can obtain up-to-date information from the website. McNally

Discovery Days - Thanks to all those involved in double-checking the completeness of Discovery Days Registration Forms and Health Forms!!!! We truly appreciate your attentiveness to details before the forms are mailed to our department for processing.

ONE CHECK DUE - A reminder that one check to cover all registration fees (including class fees) for your county delegation is due in the State 4-H Office by 5:00 PM April 26th. Please send the Revenue Sheet Form with your payment, which is a summary of all delegates, monies paid for each delegate and the total amount due. This helps all of us keep track of "who has paid what". The form can be downloaded and printed from the website.

DELEGATE COORDINATOR - Delegate Coordinators must be identified for each delegation. The Coordinators must remain at Discovery Days during the entire conference. The county delegation and the program is at high risk with Delegate Coordinators arrive late and depart early.

ADULT ASSIGNMENTS - With all of the new program components that are being offered this year, all adults can expect to receive one or more assignments to help facilitate or host the programs.

COUNTY DELEGATE INFORMATION - As soon as all data has been entered and as soon as classroom locations are finalized, each office will receive information pertaining to their delegate's classes & room locations, housing assignments, and other details. We plan to accomplish these tasks by mid-May.

DISCOVERY DAYS ACTION TEAM - Members have taken key leadership roles in planning and coordinating the various program components for the 2004 conference. Please refer to the website for more details as well as contact information. Thanks again for all of your help and support in marketing, recruiting and preparing your teens for a unique Discovery Days experience. McNally

STATE KAA AND SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS - In our correspondence with your office and the 4-H'ers, we forgot to mention that a photo would also be needed for publication in the 4-H Journal. Please contact your winners and ask them to send a current, head-and-shoulders (wallet size is best) to us as soon as possible, and no later than May 1. The address is: Lori Hutchins, State Winner Photo, 201 Umberger Hall, KSU, Manhattan KS 66506. Hutchins

Marketing Kansas 4-H - Think Purple Cow! - Why purple cow? Seth Godin, author of the book, "Purple Cow" relays a story of driving through the countryside seeing hundreds of cows grazing in picturesque pastures. This is a common site in Kansas. Many times we begin to ignore the sight because it becomes common. But what if there was a Purple Cow standing with all the others, now that would be interesting, that would be remarkable.

"Something remarkable is worth talking about. Worth noticing. New. Interesting. It's a purple cow," explains Godin. With all the other youth programs and youth activities in your community what makes 4-H a purple cow? Godin says, "You're either a purple cow or you're not. You're either remarkable or invisible. Make your choice."

The 4-H Marketing Action Team challenges you to help make 4-H a Purple Cow. We have designed items that are listed at: http://www.oznet.ksu.edu/4h/ActionTeams/marketingactionteam.htm to help you market 4-H in your county. After teaching sessions at the state 4-H Ambassador Training we realize that not everyone is aware of the items we have available. Share these resources with others who are marketing your program at the county level.

As a team we are working on the Recruitment Issue of the Kansas 4-H Journal. Our focus this year will be different. Instead of sharing ideas of "how" to recruit, this will be an issue that 4-H families can share with others to make them aware of the 4-H program, hopefully helping convince them to have their children join 4-H.

If you have thoughts or questions on marketing, please don't hesitate to email me at dmack@oznet.ksu.edu    Mack
