The Master Volunteer training has already yielded great success
stories from volunteers who participated in last year's training and your
volunteers can also share their successes after completing this year's. The
first session of the Master Volunteer Training will take place on Saturday,
August 20, 2005, from 9:15 am - 4:00 pm at Brown Mackie's Office, 2106 S
Ninth Ave, Salina (across from the mall). It's a five-hour workshop and is
open to individuals with past or present Organizational Leadership, Project
Leader, or County Leader/Advisor (adult role) who has a sincere passion and
interest in learning more about the 4-H program and serving as a key
volunteer. It is also a pre-requisite for the second portion of the Master
Volunteer Training, which will take place November 19-20 at Rock Springs 4-H
Center.
Don't let your county's PDCs miss this opportunity, just let them mark
this date on their calendar, August 20, 2005. Look out for registration
information. It will be sent electronically to Extension offices soon.
A project of the Kansas Association of 4-H Volunteers, in partnership
with K-State Research & Extension, the Master 4-H Volunteer Program is
designed to strengthen and enhance the county 4-H program. For information

4-H Centennial Candle Clarification - It
has been called to my attention there may be some
misunderstanding about the size of PVC pipe to use for the Centennial
candle. The INSIDE diameter of the PVC is 2 inches. It is generally sold by
the size of the inside diameter not the outside. Fisher

Discovery Days registrations were due from local
Extension Offices April 15 and are currently being entered into the
registration software. Once classes are assigned, class fees, late
registration fees if necessary, and other payments or credits will be billed
to local offices. Please collect those fees and mail one check payable to
“Kansas 4-H Foundation” so that it arrives before Discovery Days. This will
greatly speed up the check-in process at Discovery Days.
The
Discovery Days Policies and Guidelines have been
posted on the web. They are password protected, so you must be affiliated
with K-State Research & Extension to access them.
Materials for a local delegation orientation have been
developed and are posted on the Discovery Days web site. These include
instructions for the person conducting the orientation, handouts for
delegates, and an optional multimedia presentation.
For Delegates who wish to participate in the Discovery
Days Talent Show, they must submit their audio/video auditions directly to
State 4-H Office no later than May 1.
Check-In at Discovery Days is from 6:00-8:00pm on
Tuesday, May 31. Dinner is not included that evening so make sure your
delegation eats before they arrive. The conference will end at 11:30am on
Friday, so make sure your delegates keep enough money to eat on the way home
too.
If you have any questions about Discovery Days, please
contact Justin Wiebers or Kathy Zimmerman in the State 4-H Office.

Displays for 4-H Photography
Entries - The Landoll Corporation has developed a custom design to
display 4-H Photography entries at the Kansas State Fair. For a short time,
you can order additional units to use in your fairs. This design is made of
aluminum and will hold 160 photos. In addition to being light weight, it
disassembles to store or transport in a very small space. Due to the varying
cost of aluminum, and the custom beams that will be made for these units,
the price will be around $400 but has not been confirmed. If your county may
be interested in ordering one or more of these units, please e-mail Justin
Wiebers at jwiebers@ksu.edu
to express your interest as soon as possible; even if you will still need to
confirm with your fair board or other funders.
The design can be downloaded
and printed from the State 4-H web site on the
State Fair page.
