Whitewater Rafting on the Green River - 2007

See fun pictures of this trip and others!

Winter Rendezvous, January 27-28, 2007: For former Venturers, friends and family.
It will be held at Rock Springs. This will be a time to relax, share pictures, stories, music etc.

Orientation --- April & May
We're adding a new dimension to the training program this year because of the short period of time between Shakedown (June 1-3) and the summer trip (June 10-19).
Why? Because we believe that there will be lots of questions and important information that you will need to prepare for the rafting adventure.
Who? Youth participants and their parent(s) as well as adult participants.
Where and When? The Orientation will be held via regional/area meetings, depending upon the geographical location of program participants. Locations and dates will be determined in late March.

Shakedown, June 1-3, 2007: Rock Springs 4-H Center, south of Junction City
This training is mandatory for those attending the summer trip. Beginning at 5pm on Friday, June 1 and concluding by 1pm on Sunday, June 3, this is an intensive training. You'll do lots of teambuilding, learn the basics of low-impact camping, outdoor cookery, first-aid and knot tying. Plus, you'll learn how to put together and dismantle a paddle boat, the basics of paddle strokes and expand your knowledge of river terminology.

IMPORTANT: Please complete First-Aid and CPR certification through your local American Red Cross, American Heart Association or local hospital. It is very important that each participant complete this certification. This program takes place in isolated wilderness areas where it could take days to reach a medical facility.

Summer Trip, June 10-19, 2007: Whitewater Rafting on the Green River
Rafting on the Green River in northeastern Utah! The ten-day trip includes 7 days of rafting, putting in on the river at the Flaming Gorge Reservoir Dam, traveling through wilderness and wildlife areas, exploring rugged side canyons, discovering the artwork of prehistoric native peoples in the Dinosaur National Monument and taking out at Split Mountain near Vernal, Utah. You’ll receive the training necessary to serve as a boat captain for your 4-man paddle raft through both smooth and white waters (rapids, lots of rapids!). You’ll prepare 25 meals — either on the road trip or in wilderness areas, all in the outdoor environment!

Teens and adults who want to experience white water rafting in a wilderness setting .... plus.... seek a challenge that requires mental and physical skills in leadership, teamwork, outdoor cookery, safety and coping with nature’s elements! Maximum size of group is 25 participants, to be filled on a first-come first-serve basis. Note: Adults registering after March 1 will be placed on a waiting list.

Youth: Must be 14 years of age by January 1, 2007 or have completed 8th grade by June, 2007. Must complete a sports medical physical.

Adult: Must be Registered VIP through local extension office, willing to work in partnership with teens, loves the outdoors. Must complete a sports medical physical.
