Host Families Needed for Summer Exchange Programs

Submitted by Deryl Waldren

This summer Kansas 4-H families have the opportunity to host teens from Finland and Japan on the States’ 4-H International Exchange Programs in-bound exchanges.

Finland:  Just 10 or 11 teens are planning to come to the US June 27-July 24.  They have an arrival orientation in Washington, D.C., and will reach host families on June 29.  As of this writing Kansas has three families in the process of applying, with the national application date being March 1.  Family screening and background checks are supposed to be completed by the deadline.  Any family wanting to apply for summer 2016 should immediately contact Mary Kay Munson, 785-238-3631 or munson@ksbroadband.net.

Japan:  Applications for Japanese junior high-aged youth who are members of Labo and LEX in Japan should arrive in Kansas by the end of February.  Anyone interested in hosting one of these young people between July 23-August 18 should go to the Kansas 4-H website host family page http://www.kansas4-h.org/events-activities/global-citizenship/host-family-information/index.html  and complete the States’ 4-H Host Family on line application, which can be accessed by electronic link.  Rose Scott, Kansas Japan Summer Inbound Coordinator will be in touch with applicants, or she may be contacted at 785-565-3197 or sixtykid2@gmail.com.
