Apply Now for Hosting Inbound International Exchanges

Submitted by Mary Kay Munson

States’ 4-H International Exchange host families from across the U.S. will have the opportunity to host inbound teens from Costa Rica, Norway, South Korea and Japan.  For Costa Rica and Norway applications and host family vetting needs to be completed by March 1, so on line applications in Kansas should be completed by February 15.  Because placements for hosting Japanese are made in Kansas, applications will be accepted a little later, but families will have a better chance for a match if the also apply early.  Applications for hosting States’ 4-H summer inbounds are all on line with a link from the Kansas 4-H web site:  http://www.kansas4-h.org/events-activities/global-citizenship/host-family-information/index.html.  When families complete the application online, an email form will be generated for their references this year.  State Coordinators will follow up regarding background checks. Contact Mary Kay Munson with questions about hosting Costa Rican 4-S, Norwegian 4-H or Korean 4-H members at 785-238-3636 or munson@ksbroadband.net.  For information of the Summer Inbound Exchange with Labo and LEX in Japan, contact Rose Scott at 785-388-2009 or sixtykid2@gmail.com.

Kansas expects to host several IFYE’s between June 19 and September 8 with each IFYE hosted by multiple families for 2-3 week periods for each family.  This year to date we have committed to host IFYE’s from Austria, Estonia, Northern Ireland and Scotland.  Other countries will likely be added.  Families who wish to host one of these young people should complete the IFYE Host Family Application.  Go to the same web page as above:  http://www.kansas4-h.org/events-activities/global-citizenship/host-family-information/index.html, then scroll down to the IFYE Hosting Section, and download the form-fillable pdf application form to their own computers.  When they have completed and saved the pdf, families email it to Mary Kay Munson at munson@ksbroadband.net.  Munson can be called at 785-238-3631 for information about hosting an IFYE.

Placements are also under way for States’ 4-H Academic Year Program students for 2017-18 from Japan, South Korea, Mexico or Eurasian Countries as well as some from Eastern Europe.  Contact Mary Kay Munson for information and applications.
