2018 Kansas 4-H Wheat Expo Results

Sixty-five Kansas 4-H members, siblings, parents, friends and Extension staff attended the 2018 Kansas 4-H Wheat Expo in South Hutchinson on August 2nd at the Community Building. Participants judged educational classes of wheat, breads, photography, and a weed quiz. Participants were able to attend one of two educational tours.

Planning team members included: Joan Krumme, Darren Busick, Berny Unruh, Alicia Boor, Becky Miller, Yonghui Li, Glenn Newdigger, Randy Hein, Jodi Drake, Elly Sneath, Anita DeWeese and Deryl Waldren. Thanks to everyone who helped make this year’s wheat expo the success it was.

Awards were given in eight divisions and the judging activity. Premium monies for those who attended will be awarded and mailed to participants in the near future. The major results in each division are:

Division 1 – 1 lb. Wheat, Produced by 4-H member (2 exhibits)
1st – Truman Hooker, Sunflower - Goodland, Hatcher
2nd – Grayson Maxwell, Pawnee County, Chrome

Division 2 – 1 lb. Wheat, Adopt a Wheat Producer (1 exhibit)
1st – Ellie Just, Marion County, Blend HRW

Division 3 – 1 Quart jar of Cleaned Wheat (8 exhibits)
1st – Peyton Sowers, Kingman County
2nd – Caden Sowers, Kingman County
3rd – Grayson Maxwell, Pawnee County

Division 4 – 3 Yeast Rolls (5 exhibits)
1st – Grace Oard, Sedgwick County
2nd – Peyton Sowers, Kingman County
3rd – Ellie Just, Marion County

Division 5 – 3 Cookies (15 exhibits)
1st – Jurney Yung, Sedgwick
2nd – Maddy Nichepor, Walnut Creek – Ness City
3rd – Grayson Maxwell, Pawnee County

Division 6 – Muffins (3 exhibits)
