Apply Now for Summer Short-Term Hosting

Submitted by Mary Kay Munson

Kansas families interested in hosting through States’ 4-H (for incoming 4-H age youth 12-18) and/or IFYE’s (primarily young adult exchangees over 18) in summer 2019 should apply now for the full array of options. These exchanges have summer hosting periods of 3-4 weeks between June and September.  The first deadline at the national level is for hosting Norwegian and Costa Rican inbounds ages 15-18 through States’ 4-H.  We need those families to complete or update applications by mid-February.  If they don’t receive a placement after March 1, we can roll their applications over for consideration in the Japan Inbound Exchange (youth 12-16) or the IFYE Inbound Exchange almost seamlessly and with no additional applications or screening.

Applicants who have completed In Home Interviews and Criminal Background Checks do not have to repeat these screening processes the next two years if there have been no changes in their households.  We encourage families to update applications on the States’ 4-H secure portal, where much of previous information is maintained.

For information and/or referral to the coordinators for the Japan Inbound Exchange (Rose Scott) and IFYE Inbound Exchange (Chelsy Champlin) feel free to contact Mary Kay Munson, State Exchange Coordinator and coordinator for the Inbound States’ 4-H Exchanges with Norway and Costa Rica, at 785-238-3631 or munson@ksbroadband.net.   Check the Host Family page on the Kansas 4-H web site http://www.kansas4-h.org/events-activities/global-citizenship/host-family-information/ for program information, links and applications.
