Insect Spectacular:

Looking for an excellent educational experience for 4-H'ers interested in the entomology project?! SAVE THE DATE! June 21 & 22, 2019.  The Kansas 4-H Insect Spectacular is for all youth, beginning through advanced- there will be something for all ages and experience levels. At least one parent must register and attend with child. This year's Insect Spectacular will be hosted at the Kansas Wetlands Education Center northeast of Great Bend.  Registration will open in May, stay tuned for more details! Visit the Entomology event page for more info.

Changes to Entomology division at the Kansas State Fair:

Please look closely at the guidelines for Entomology at the Kansas State Fair for 2019. Two significant changes have been made that we would like you to be aware of.

1) Choosing the Taxonomy of Option A or B is now the 4-H member's choice. They DO NOT have to change to Option B if they do not want to.

2) The guidelines for the Educational Exhibit class have been expanded.  While 4-H'ers can still make an insect collection exhibit in the standard display box, they can also make a poster, display, game, webpage, or any other creative exhibit that fits within the space allowed.  We strongly encourage educational exhibits to be related to learning experiences from the Teaming With Insects curriculum.

You are encouraged to make these changes to your local fairbooks as well. We believe these new guidelines will allow more creative exhibit opportunities that are unique to each 4-H member.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask Amy Sollock, Southwest Area 4-H Specialist at asollock@ksu.edu or Dale Weishaar, Kansas State Fair 4-H Entomology Superintendent, at dmwheatfarmer@gmail.com.
