Foods Judging Update

I’ve had a couple people ask if a food judges training session will be happening this year. I met with Diane Mack and Amy Sollock last week and we decided not to hold them this year. So for new judges and for all judges, here’s what I recommend:

  1. All of the recordings and information from the Zoom trainings we did in April 2020 are available on my website at https://www.rrc.k-state.edu/judging/index.html. This includes the introduction session, the Foods Judging session and the Food Preservation session.

  2. Also on that website is links to the Frostings and Fillings publication and the Zoom session I did for August FCS update.

  3. In the Frostings and Fillings publication is our recommendation to verify if a frosting or filling recipe is safe for the fair. This is a calculation the 4Her will need to do! The judges will not have time to do this. So this is a great math (STEM) project for all!

  4. Also on the website are extra information for labels and scorecards.

As you acquire judges, please pass this information on to them to be informed on the information. Please pass this on to whoever does the hiring of your judges. If you have questions, please let us know.
