January Best Time to Apply for Academic Year Hosting

Submitted by Mary Kay Munson

Since applications of students wishing to participate in 4-H Academic Year Exchange (AYP) begin coming at the end of January, Kansas families who would like to host one of these students should apply now to have the best choice in a match for them.

Students for 2023-24 will be boys and girls from Japan representing Labo and LEX and South Korea representing Korea 4-H and Better Futures Education (BFE). They attend U.S. high schools as full time students, participate in school activities and 4-H, share their cultures, and do community service, while becoming members of their host families.

Host families provide meals, lodging and transportation. The students’ natural parents provide for their personal and school expenses. It is not required that host families have children who are the same age and gender as the AYP student they host.

Students for the 2023-24 academic year arrive in August and depart in June 2024. For more information and application for hosting AYP Exchanges, contact Mary Kay Munson, State Exchange Coordinator, at 785-375-3189 or mkm2@ksu.edu
