Description:

Hydrangeas are upright ornamental shrubs grown mostly for their flowers. The leaves of hydrangeas are oppositely arranged and range in shape from ovals to five lobed depending on the species. The flowers are small and insignificant, but the bracts are the showy part. The bracts have four parts and can persist through the winter. With some species, the flower color can be changed depending on the soil pH, with higher pH soils having blue petals and lower pH soils producing pink flowers.
