Volunteer and rotation changes for State Fair Fashion Revue

Submitted by Amy Collins

In 2025, we opened the KSF Fashion Revue to both Intermediate (10-13) and Senior (14-18) age divisions – essentially doubling our participants! This event is well attended by our 4-H youth and takes a sizeable volunteer base to be successful. This event takes place on the second Saturday of the Kansas State Fair. In 2026, the State Fair Fashion Revue will be held on September 19, 2026.

Extension staff, regardless of your programming specialty, are invited to volunteer at this event. There are multiple volunteer positions that you can contribute to on a small scale that don’t require a huge time commitment. There are committees and volunteer positions that meet and complete their duties before the state fair begins, and other volunteers that are needed the day of the event; an added bonus is that you can select the time of day that works best for your schedule if you volunteer the day of the event. Some responsibilities include taking judges' notes or stuffing ribbons in envelopes, while others include a little muscle to move pipe and drape across the stage, so it varies depending on the job. Tickets and parking passes can be provided on the day of the event.

Because of these changes, we have a new volunteer rotation schedule. We will no longer be rotating responsibilities by the four (NW, SW, SE, or NE) areas. We will begin our new rotation schedule for Fashion Revue by dividing into Western and Eastern parts of the state and rotating every two years. This means all volunteer positions can be filled by extension staff, regardless of programming specialty, and/or volunteers.

If there are extension staff who are particularly passionate about the KSF Fashion Revue and would like to take on chairing this event for a period of time, we are not particular about your location (Western or Eastern side of the state). All who would like to help are welcome, but when we are in need of volunteers, we will look to our rotation schedule to fill those spots. If you are interested in a semi-permanent volunteer position for this event, please contact Amy Collins.

Here is the rotation schedule for the next few years:
2025 – NW area (considered first year of Western Area rotation)
2026- Western (will be considered their second year in rotation)
2027 & 2028 - Eastern
2029 & 2030 - Western
2031 & 2032 – Eastern
