2015 Kansas 4-H Dog Care and Training Project Changes

Submitted by Deryl Waldren

Periodically the Kansas 4-H Dog Care and Training Project shares changes as they affect 4-H dog shows including the Kansas State Fair 4-H Dog Show.

  • For 4-H Dog Agility Trials - effective immediately the crawl tunnel can be replaced with the hoop tunnel for Agility II and Agility III.

  • For Obedience, the handler is allowed to touch the dog during the stand for exam and between exercises (while not being judged).  An example of this would be petting your dog as praise after the judge declares "exercise finished."  Touching the dog during an exercise will result in points being deducted for extra commands and possible other deductions (case-by-case determination).

  • Questions asked by the judge to the 4-H member during showmanship should include personal dog questions about the breed, gender, feed and care of the dog, etc.  The intent of the judge asking personal dog questions is to put the 4-H member at ease.  Other general knowledge questions about dogs should not be asked at that time.

  • 2015 Kansas State Fair 4-H Dog Show fee - A $5.00 entry fee per class with a maximum of $15.00 per individual will be due to the Kansas State 4-H Office with all Kansas State Fair 4-H Dog Show entries by August 15.

  • 2016 Kansas State Fair 4-H Dog Show fee - a $5.00 entry fee per class with a maximum of $30.00 per individual will be due to the Kansas State 4-H office with all Kansas State Fair 4-H Dog Show entries by August 15, 2016.
