Hosts Still Needed for Kansas International 4-H Youth Exchangees (IFYE)

Submitted by Mary Kay Munson

The other U.S. partner organization Kansas 4-H works with for international exchanges is IFYE.  IFYE USA, Inc. owns the logo and supports only exchanges in the 4-H alumni age group.  The exchangees we host can be placed with 4-H families with children of any age or others in the community.  We prefer to place them with families who support 4-H youth programs and are willing to involve them with young people during their stay.  Each family usually hosts for 2-3 weeks, with multiple families hosting during the exchangee’s stay in Kansas.

This summer, exchangees representing youth groups in Germany, Scotland, Taiwan and Wales, will arrive June 21 and have four families between then and the Kansas State Fair.  An exchangee from Austria will need two hosts between July 7 and August 11.  The three men all come from farms and indicate they plan careers in agriculture.  We are looking for farm families to host them though others may host as well.   Una from Taiwan represents the 4-H program in her country and wants to learn as much as she can about 4-H programs and experiential learning.  The Scottish girl is interested in the U.S culture.  She still needs one host family.

Please let families know about the opportunity to host young adults for a short period this summer.  Here is a brief summary of the IFYEs, a little background on each, and the periods they need hosts.  For more information or to request an IFYE and time to host, contact Mary Kay Munson.
