Family & Consumer Science Judging Contest 2018

Submitted by Andrea Feldkamp

Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Judging is a hands-on and practical way to engage with everyday life issues impacting people and families.  Topic options are vast including: human development, nutrition, self care, financial management, health - and many more.

The 2018 Kansas 4-H FCS Judging experience will focus on the KSRE grand challenge of health.  This is certainly something that impacts all of us.  Any youth age 9-13 (Intermediate Division) or 14-18 (Senior Division) are eligible to participate in this year's contest.  The state contest will be held on Saturday, September 15 in the 4-H Encampment Building.

Youth, in teams of 2-4, within each age division, will be invited to identify a health issue in their local community that they would like to address.  Teams will interview local adults and other youth to learn more.  Teams will create a 2-4 minute video identifying their issue, what they learned and their proposed plan to solve the issue.  Video submissions are due May 15.

Videos will be evaluated, and qualifying entries will be invited to participate in the September 15 contest.  Visit http://www.kansas4-h.org/events-activities/contests/fcs-judging/index.html for complete contest details and resources.

FCS Agents are invited to visit the FCS Update break session from 10:00-10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 13 in the Alumni Center Atrium to view resources and dialog with planning committee members.
