Kansas 4-H contracted by Kansas Department Of Education
Kansas 4-H Youth Development has been contracted by the Kansas Department of Education (KDOE) for $4.2 million dollars over the next three years to provide Kansas youth learning loss relief as a result of COVID-19 through 4-H summer programming opportunities in counties across the state in summers of 2022-2024.
Shane Potter, 4-H Youth Development Specialist, will be overseeing this strategic contract. Currently, 4-H Youth Development is seeking a project/program coordinator to assist in the administration of this contract to counties across Kansas. Building upon the long record of successful partnership with local school districts and leveraging the state's largest youth development network reaching all 105 counties, Kansas 4-H Youth Development will be utilize summer enrichment programs to address the academic, social, emotional and mental health needs of youth as a part of the American Rescue Plan (ARP) – Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Plan.
Gaining lost ground due to COVID will be critical for young children whose learning builds on previous skill development. 4-H will help youth make up for unfinished learning because of remote or hybrid school situations and compromised connectivity or technology access. Kansas 4-H Youth Development will provide additional hands-on, project-based summer enrichment activities in rural and urban communities in Kansas.
