Online SuperTracker Experience

Participants work as team to plan meals using the Food Tracker feature on SuperTracker. (Format used at 2016 State Senior Contest at 4-H Discovery Days)

Pros - Immediate feedback; youth can see how information could directly apply to them; youth get to see nutrition information on their food choices (not predetermined choices)

Cons - Participants need to print out information for scoring purposes; requires internet and equipment

How to implement:

  1. Acquire laptops or tablets/iPads with internet access. (Printing capability is desired but not necessary)

  2. Print various scenario cards for teams (various options exist depending on how much time you have available for contest). Print copies of the contest instruction sheet - color printouts preferred.

  3. Review challenge options for possible inclusion.

  4. Teams will start at supertracker.usda.gov.  The contest instruction sheet provides an overview of how to create a profile using data from the scenario card.

  5. Teams will brainstorm various food choices to meet daily targets and enter food choices into Food Tracker. Distribute challenge options (if applicable).

  6. Upon completion, youth will print or e-mail choices to contest host.

  7. Utilize the SuperTracker Rubric (PDF) (Excel) to score and return to youth.
