Electric & Renewable Energy

The electric & renewable energy project develops skills related to safe practices, proper use of fuses and circuit breakers, proper lighting techniques, proper wiring techniques.  Youth will also have the opportunity for hands-on experiences and knowledge they will use in the future. They will experience technology firsthand while learning communication and decision-making skills.

Things to Learn/Do in the Project

Level 1

  • Make a simple circuit, a flashlight, and a switch
  • Find out about magnetism and make a compass

Level 2

  • Learn about Ohm's Law and use a volt-ohm meter
  • Label a circuit diagram
  • Build a three way switch

Level 3 and 4

  • Determine your family's electrical usage
  • Measure electric usage of appliances
  • Test grounded outlets
  • Explore Electronics
  • Build simple radios, microphones, computers and other equipment
  • Explore careers in electronics and engineering
