Join us in celebrating Kansas agriculture!

Submitted by Pam Van Horn

The Kansas Department of Agriculture has partnered with state agricultural organizations, Dillons Food Stores, Harvesters–The Community Food Bank, Kansas Food Bank and Second Harvest Community Food Bank to celebrate Kansas agriculture. They are inviting 4-H members to join them on March 11 for the Ag Day in Dillons Stores for the celebrating Kansas agriculture event.

During the month of March, the primary focus for this state agricultural partnership is to show support for members of our agricultural industry, as well as our neighbors in need by taking part in celebratory activities and the Neighbor to Neighbor statewide food drive. The agriculture partnership would like 4-H members to participate in the celebration by volunteering at the Neighbor to Neighbor statewide food drive. While collecting items for the food, the local clubs will have the opportunity to visit with people about Kansas agriculture and share individual stories. Please follow the instructions below to get involved with this event.

Ag Day in Dillons Stores, March 11, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Checklist:

  • Prepare any materials the club would like to share about the club, membership, events, etc. (brochures, handouts).
  • The event is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. If necessary, determine how many shifts the club would like with its membership. Prepare a sign-up sheet and distribute to club members.  (Note: By signing up, the local 4-H club is taking responsibility for the entire four-hour shift; the club may include another organization.)
  • Contact the Dillons store the club selected and make sure the managers are aware the club is coming. Dillons will provide you with:

    1. Tear sheets that provide methods for donating to the food drive and list of food items most needed that club members will hand out to the public

    2. Neighbor to Neighbor branded barrels for collecting donations

In an effort to reach a broader audience to honor Kansas agriculture, and to educate Kansans about the agricultural sector, the partnerships asks for club members to join us in our celebrations.
