ACRES Facilitating STEM Learning-Asking Purposeful Questions

Submitted by Anissa Jepsen

Take advantage of this free Professional Development opportunity in partnership with ACRES (Afterschool Coaching for Reflective Educators in STEM) a project of the MMSA (Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance).

Participants will take a seat at the "virtual table" and learn with other Kansas 4-H agents, program assistants and program managers over three Zoom sessions. You will work collaboratively in real time, in highly interactive and engaging sessions. Each session will be held from 10:00am-12:00pm CST.

Session 1 (October 17) will help you learn and practice the art of Asking Purposeful Questions when facilitating STEM activities.

After session 1 you will record yourself (2-3 minutes) with a phone or tablet practicing the skill with a youth.

In sessions 2 and 3 (November 14 and December 12) you will rejoin the group and reflect on practice, receive feedback and engage in peer coaching for the targeted skill captured in your video clip.

This is a great opportunity to gain exposure to the research surrounding STEM education, access new strategies for interacting with youth, broaden the use of technology and build relationships with your peers across the state.

Registration is due October 1, 2019
