A Chance to Improve Spanish with Costa Rican Hosting

Submitted by Dr. Mary Kay Munson

Kansas 4-H is committed to host five Costa Rican 4-S teens this summer. They will range in age from 15-18. Hosting one of them in your family will give you a chance to improve Spanish language, learn about 4-S (4-H in Costa Rica) and daily life in Costa Rica, and have fun together. Each Costa Rica 4-S member needs a host family between June 26 and July 21. Similar to hosting Japanese youth, the Costa Ricans’ hosts must have a host sibling for the Costa Rican who is the same gender and within 3 years of their age. Families lacking youth who qualify as host siblings may host an adult chaperone. The same application is used for both Japanese and Costa Ricans. The Costa Rican will be placed from a national pool on a first come basis.

Apply in March for the widest choice and consideration.
