The K-State Research and Extension Pesticide Safety and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Program is looking for K-State Professionals and/or K-State Students to volunteer as art contest judges. This year's theme is: “Incognito: Insects in Disguise,” and encourages youth and adults to explore how and why insects camouflage or imitate. Artwork can illustrate a real-life insect or be 3-D (sculpture, stained glass, or other media). There are five age categories in which 1st – 3rd place will be awarded:

• Kindergarten – 2nd grade
• 3rd grade – 5th grade
• 6th grade – 8th grade
• High school
• Adult

The judging process of the artwork takes place online, so travel isn’t necessary. All entries will be scanned (3-D photographed) and uploaded into a shared online drive by age group. Each judge will be provided with a judging rubric, access to artwork, and an online judging spreadsheet to assign points for each entry. Judges will be able to go through art contest entries at their leisure, with the goal to finish by the end of April.

If you are willing to participate as a judge – thank you! - please sign up here by Friday, February 23: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0E4FA9AA28AAFBC61-47887796-insect

Selected judges will receive confirmation and additional details the last week of February.

We encourage promotion of the art contest to your local families and educators. Participants of all ages are welcome to submit an entry before the April 15, 2024 deadline. Contest rules, Entry form, and Flyer are linked for your convenience.
