2021 Kansas 4-H and FFA Wheat Variety Plot Enrollment Open (Repost)

Submitted by Deryl E Waldren

As wheat harvest approaches it is time to remind members to re-enroll or ask new members to enroll for the 2021 Kansas 4-H and FFA Wheat Variety Plot program. The program begins fall of 2020 and goes through September 2021. The enrollment form and program details are currently available. Visit: http://www.kansas4-h.org/events-activities/conferences-events/wheat/wheat-variety-plots/index.html. Members are asked to contact their local Extension Office by July 12 for information with enrollments due to Deryl Waldren, dwaldren@ksu.edu. There will be no cost for the program in 2020-21 since the five varieties are again being sponsored by commercial companies. It is very important that we know the number of participants early, so we can have enough seed and metal signs available for Extension agents and leaders to pick up at the Kansas State Fair. New participants will receive a free large plot sign, and five free individual variety signs. These are scheduled to be distributed on Friday, September 11th at the 2020 Kansas State Fair.

Don’t forget to pull your wheat samples for the Kansas State 4-H Wheat Show on Thursday, August 6th in Wichita, and also for wheat samples at your county fair, that may be eligible for the Kansas State Fair 4-H Crops Division.

Resource information for the wheat variety project includes: (1) Wheat Variety Plot Brochure, 4-H 565 Revised 2010,) (2) Wheat Variety Plot--Youth Participant Handbook, 4-H 566, Revised 2010, and (3) 4-H Wheat Variety Plot Record, P1099, Revised 2010. To download these files, visit: http://www.kansas4-h.org/events-activities/conferences-events/wheat/wheat-variety-plots/index.html. This year's participants who are getting ready to harvest their plots should be planning their county fair display for possible qualifying for the Kansas State Fair entry in the Showcase Building.
