Complete Your Host Family Application Now!

Submitted by Mary Kay Munson

February is the ideal time to start your family's experience in another part of the globe. By hosting a 4-H International Exchange, you will open up your family to the world. This year you can welcome a youth from Japan or Korea for a month next summer or for the next school term. You may be able to host a 4-H teen from Norway or Costa Rica for a month next summer. Or you might welcome an IFYE (over 18) from Europe, Asia, Africa or Latin America for 2-3 weeks between June and September.

Intrigued, but don’t know where to start? Start by completing a Host Family Application in February and list your choices for one-month States’ 4-H teen exchanges. The application is the same for all States’ 4-H International Exchanges one-month summer programs. You can find a link to an inquiry form at www.Kansas4-h.org under “News and Updates”.

Contact Mary Kay Munson for general questions about any exchange including school-year hosting (AYP) at 785-375-3189 or mkm2@ksu.edu. Pam Van Horn pvanhorn@ksu.edu is the coordinator and direct contact for the Japan Summer Inbound Exchange. If you want more information about IFYE hosting, contact Coordinator Chelsy Champlin chelsycoen@gmail.com. Placements of youth are made in March at the national level. If one is not available for a Kansas applicant family, we will try to provide an opportunity to host another exchange coming to Kansas.
