Happy New Year

Submitted by Sarah E Maass

At the beginning of the year, many people set new year resolutions and/or a word or phrase for the year.  No matter if this is part of your annual routine, setting goals is a great way to start the new year.  Part of the annual performance review process includes setting goals.  I’d encourage you to pull out those goals and put them somewhere where you can see them at work every day.  Work towards them.  Every step forward is progress, no matter if it is small or large.

During the two state staff meetings we have had so far this year, we have taken time to discuss and agree upon a word of the year, something we are going to focus on.  We finally narrowed it down to the word Hope.  Merriam-Webster defines hope as “to desire with expectation of obtainment or fulfillment,” “to expect with confidence,” and “desire accompanied by expectation of or believe in fulfillment.”  We are striving to help move Kansas 4-H forward, one baby step at a time.  During the transition time, several bandages were put on to survive.  As we move forward, we are wanting to lessen the temporary fixes and move towards more consistent and sustainable ways of doing things.  We have made small steps towards this and are hopeful to keep moving forward in the right direction.  We see a bright future.  We hope that everyone will come right alongside us as we move forward.  As with anything, we know that every move we make, will not please everyone.  But let’s not lose sight of our goals.  We are on the same team and together we can make more strides forward.

I do hope that you had a wonderful holiday season and took some time to relax, spend time with those you love, and get re-energized for 2023.  It is nice to get back into a routine of sorts as I know we all have hit the ground running as we kick off 2023.  I look forward to seeing many of you in Emporia at 4-H Program Rally later this month.
