January and February Ideal Months to Apply for Hosting Academic Year Students

Submitted by Mary Kay Munson

States’ 4-H International Exchange Programs is planning Academic Year Programs (AYP) with Japan (Labo and LEX), Korea (Better Futures Education and Korea 4-H) and the US government-sponsored FLEX (Future Leaders Exchange) and YES (Youth Exchange and Study) for the 2021-2022 school year.  FLEX selects students of countries in Europe and Asia which were formerly under Communist governments.  YES selects students of Southern Europe, Africa and Asia who are from countries with large Muslim populations.  All of these government-sponsored students have high ability and good English skills.

We will begin receiving applications about the end of January, 2021.  Kansas families who would like to host an academic year student can review student bios and select a student they believe will fit well in their families.  Apply now, so you can be approved to host AYP’s and you will be ready to choose a student as soon as they arrive.   This is an ideal opportunity to host for parents who work outside the home, since students attend high school.  Host families provide food, lodging and transportation.  For more information and the application, contact Kansas AYP coordinator, Mary Kay Munson, 785-375-3189 or email mkm2@ksu.edu.
