Applications Due Mid-February to Host Finns and Costa Ricans

Submitted by Mary Kay Munson

In order to complete clearances by the March 1 deadline in Seattle, Kansas families wishing to host a Finnish or Costa Rican 4-H’er this summer should complete applications by February 12.  Host families are required to have a family member who will be in the home during the exchange as host sibling who is within 2-3 years and the same gender as the teen to be hosted.  Incoming 4-H’ers are 15-18.

To apply, follow the link to States’ 4-H’s on line application from the Kansas 4-H web site:  http://www.kansas4-h.org/events-activities/global-citizenship/host-family-information/.  References are not required for families who hosted previous 4-H exchanges.  Background checks and In Home interviews are good for three years.  Contact Mary Kay Munson, Kansas International Exchange Coordinator at  munson@ksbroadband.net or call 785-238-3631 with questions about these exchanges or how to apply.

Applicants can shift their applications to hosting a Japanese or IFYE if not selected for Norway or Costa Rica hosting.  Contact Rose Scott, Japan Inbound Coordinator, at sixtykid2@yahoo.com or 785-388-2009 for information on Japan Summer Inbound Exchanges.  Information on Japanese youth coming to Kansas will be available by the end of February.
